What is Mid EUROPE?

Mid Europe is one of the most important wind and brass music festivals in the world.

It is here that old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, traditional and progressive, regional and international music styles congregate. All this stimulates an extensive and galvanising interaction that generates further development and provides the basis for continuous quality enhancements. Both regional and international developments are taken into account. The festival thus represents a source of influence on musical evolution with regard to both performers and audience. All this means that Mid Europe provides extensive insights into the world of wind and brass music.

The main festival activities are:

  • In-door concerts
  • Church concerts
  • Open-air concerts
  • Late night concerts
  • The CISM-Mid Europe competition for youth brass ensembles
  • The WYWOP (World Youth Wind Orchestra Project)
  • Mid-Instruments & More – (musical products fair)
  • Workshops – a masterclass for conductors
  • The LONG NIGHT OF MUSIC
  • The Schladming TATTOO - the marching music show
  • Opening and closing ceremonies

In summer 2017, Mid EUROPE will be hosted for the 20th time by Schladming and Haus im Ennstal. From 11 - 16 July, the musical genres to be heard at the various concerts and venues in the Schladming-Dachstein region will include classical, traditional Bohemian, swing and the lively rhythms of ska and pop. Again, thousands of musicians from some 15 different countries will be present to put their performing skills on show to a demanding audience, to connect with others who share their enthusiasms and to train in the masterclasses and workshops.

Music lovers, guests and friends - all are invited to attend the top-class in-door, open-air and church performances. Stars from the world of wind and brass music will, of course, again be present.

This year's anniversary event will be inaugurated with a concert providing a first class sound experience; the German Army Big Band will be performing together with the Bavarian Police Orchestra - a musical extravaganza that will really get the show on the road.

Other highlights include the Long Night of Music on Thursday and the glittering Schladming TATTOO marching music show on Friday! And make sure you don't miss the special celebratory anniversary evening on Wednesday.
