Ballart Wind Orchestra

Das Ballarat Windorchester (BWO), aus der gleichnamigen Stadt in Victoria (Australien) stammend, wurde 2010 von Heather George und Mario Dobernig als Projektorchester mit der Absicht gegründet, Bläsermusik auf ansprechendem Niveau zu präsentieren und damit die Welt zu berreisen. Das Orchester hat seither jedes Jahr zwei Konzerte gegeben und mehrere Konzerttourneen nach Europa und China unternommen. Neben dem Standardrepertoire des Blasmusikrepertoires liegt dem Orchester die Förderung der traditonellen australischen Blasmusik sowie der Avantgarde am Herzen, was in der Uraufführung von einigen Auftragskompositionen resultierte. So wurde, zum Beispiel, Houston Dunleavy’s Looking Into Fire als Ouverture zu Mozart’s Requiem realisiert. Ferner wurde Andrian Pertout’s Unity in Australien und auf Tour in China aufgeführt. Basierend auf Volksliedern beider Länder dient es als Zeichen der Verständigung zwischen Australien und China. Neben der ernsten Musik sind die Musiker des BWO, die der österreichischen Nationaltracht zugeneigt sind, dem Musikentertainment verpflichtet und verstehen es Ihre Spiel –und Lebensfreude Ihrem Publikum zu vermitteln. Für die Europatournee 2018 konnte das BWO die renommierte australische Mezzosopranistin Sally-Anne Russell gewinnen, die schon mit Luciano Pavarotti (Spoleto) und erst kürzlich mit Sumi Jo aufgetreten ist. Sie hat mehr als 60 Opernrollen in ihrem Repertoire, welche Sie schon an viele der bedeutenden Opernhäuser Europas, der Vereinigten Staaten Amerikas, Asiens und Australiens führten.

On a global quest to make a musical difference, Mario Dobernig is fast emerging as one of the most inspiring conductors of his generation. Whether it be on the classical concert platform or the unconventional wonderland of electronic dance music his energy and passion for music is infectious.

Mario’s repertoire includes Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, No. 7, Violin and Emperor Concerto, Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 and No. 4, Schubert’s “Great” and No. 5, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Rachmaninoff’s Piano concertos No. 2 and No. 3, Debussy’s L’apres midi d’une faune, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Haydn’s Farewell Symphony as well as commissioning and premiering more than 60 modern works by Australian and International composers.

Operatic, Choral and Vocal works include Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci for National Touring Opera, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Mozart’s C-minor Mass and Requiem, Haydn's Creation, de Falla’s El Amor brujo, Schubert’s Masses No 2. and No. 6, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Faure’s Requiem and Operatic Galas.

Mario Dobernig is Artistic Director and Conductor in Chief for the Art of Sound Orchestra. He has organized and produced a number of highly successful festivals in multiple cities and countries (Australia, Austria, China, Germany, Italy, Finland).

Mario was awarded his PhD in 2014 and also holds multiple Master degrees in Conducting, Percussion and Musicology from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the University of Helsinki.  He has been a guest lecturer and conductor at The University of Melbourne and Monash University.

Discography includes online releases for ABC Classics of the Centenary of Gallipoli (2015) and Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat (2011). Mario Dobernig has also been a featured guest on various radio programs around the globe. Engagements for the 2017/2018 season include performances with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha for the Qatar Festival (broadcasted on Qatari Television Al Jazeera, 2017, with re-invitation). In Austria, Mozart’s Requiem for the Friesach Festival, Beethoven No. 5 with the Kapfenberg Symphony and performances at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. In Australia, Hobart’s MONA FOMA (Helpmann Award), Brahms’s Requiem and Alto Rhapsody, the masses of Schubert, Mozart, Haydn, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Eroica, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Barry Conyngham’s DAWN, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Faure Requiem, multiple festival appearances with Electronic Dance Music Producers as well as cultural exchange programs between Austria and Australia and returns to Europe in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
