What is MID EUROPE®?

MID EUROPE® is one of the most important international festivals for wind bands, and proudly presents an enormous stylistic variety of the highest quality.

Old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, traditional and progressive, regional and international are offered. This is the foundation for intense and inspiring discussions. We pay attention to regional and international developments and serve as an influential source for active musicians as well as our audiences. MID EUROPE® is the window into the world of wind music.

More than 40 ensembles, with about 2,500 musicians from all over the world come and bring music to Schladming and Haus. The music industry presents their latest products. Engaged and demanding audiences enjoy inspiring performances. Meeting internationally-acknowledged artists makes every visit an adventure. We present fascinating wind music in the Alpine valley at the foot of the Dachstein mountain.

The history of MID EUROPE®

1997
Prof. Wolfgang Suppan was president of WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) – an international wind band conference held biennially. In 1997 this festival was held in Schladming, and the resounding success of the conference led to the hour of birth of....

1998
MID EUROPE® - Wolfgang Suppan founded MID EUROPE®, a festival unlike any other in Europe. Prof. Suppan nurtured this „child“ with artistic and scholarly leadership.

2000
Prof. Suppan ended his role as artistic and scholarly director after the third MID EUROPE® and suggested Prof. Johann Mösenbichler (Anton Brucker Private University and Principal conductor of the Musikkorps Bavarian Police) to follow in his position.
