Charleston Southern University Holy City Consort

The Holy City Consort at Charleston Southern is a select group of music students, professors, and friends of the School of Music. The ensemble performs chamber and cori spezzati literature available for instruments and voices both tutti and in smaller combinations, from the Renaissance through the 21st century. Professors and students from Charleston Southern University have performed in conferences and concerts worldwide, including for the Southern Division of the College Band Directors National Association, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, at New York's Carnegie Hall and Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Charleston Southern ensembles have completed numerous international performance tours, including two previous performances with the MidEurope Festival, and performances at San Marco Basilica, Canterbury Cathedral, Thomaskirche, Schlosskirche, and venues in England, Czechia, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, and Hungary. Since 2002, Charleston Southern ensembles have performed three times by invitation for the S.C. Music Educators Association Conference.

Charlston Southern University

Conductor: Marshall Forrester

Marshall Forrester is Professor of Music at Charleston Southern University where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, as well as teaching conducting and arranging. He is the Founder and Director of the South Carolina Youth Wind Symphony and the Charleston Southern Summer Music Camp. Dr. Forrester was previously a professor with Carson-Newman University, where he was the recipient of the Teaching Excellence and Leadership Award and Music Director and Conductor of the Knoxville Wind Symphony. He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, and is a graduate of the NC School of Science and Mathematics. Dr. Forrester is active in the College Band Director’s National Association, and served as host for the 2016 CBDNA Southern Division Conference in Charleston. He has presented wind music research for conferences of Die Internationale Gesellschaft zur Erforschung und Förderung der Blasmusik. Dr. Forrester enjoys consulting on database design for education, performing arts, entertainment, aviation, wellness, and telecom organizations in the USA, UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Australia, and Sudan. He lives in Charleston with his wife, Lisa, sons Paul and Andrew (students at Yale and Duke Universities), and daughter, Katie, a student at Davidson College.
