The Austrian Armed Forces – a new cooperating partner
Wednesday, 12.04.2023
Musicians of the Austrian Armed Forces have become an important part of Mid EUROPE - whether it's the conducting workshop where the Military Band serves as the practice orchestra, or the performances at the Schladming Tattoo where their marching formations are certain to delight spectators. We are particularly pleased to announce that the Austrian Armed Forces, including the Military Band, are now a partner of Mid EUROPE. A big thank-you goes out to the Ministry of Defense, which made this cooperation possible.
The Austrian Armed Forces have teamed up with Mid Europe in order, on the one hand, to highlight the internationally recognized high-quality training and skills of its military musicians and, on the other, to present the Bundesheer to a broad audience in this unique way as a strong, versatile, and above all reliable security guarantor for the protection of the Republic of Austria and its people.
The Bundesheer will be represented by the Upper Austria Military Band at the wind music festival taking place in Schladming and Haus im Ennstal in June. They will share their musical ideas and insights with international artists, perform together, and be available as a practice orchestra. In addition, soldiers from Styria will demonstrate some of their soldiering skills and core competencies for the protection of the population, their first-class training and skills for humanitarian and disaster relief at home and abroad, and promote the diverse job opportunities which are available within the Austrian Armed Forces.
The new security challenges in national defense - such as armed conflicts in close proximity to Austria, cyberterrorism, pandemics, and intensified natural disasters - are fundamentally changing the framework for Austria's security whilst highlighting the importance of the Bundesheer and its services for the Austrian populace as a whole. The Bundesheer must be prepared to defend Austria militarily in case of emergency. The urgently needed investments must target improved mobility, enhanced military effectiveness, and development of a more self-reliant Bundesheer.
The Bundesheer helps during natural disasters such as floods, extreme snowfall or forest fires and saves lives after devastating earthquakes, such as most recently in Turkey. In international peacekeeping missions as part of the UN and EU, Austrian soldiers make an important contribution to the security of the local population. The qualities of the soldiers are well-known and appreciated by the public as a whole. However, it is important not to stagnate, but rather continue on a path of success towards the future. This means modernization of training and investment in the equipment of soldiers.
