WYWOP – Testimonials

Whether new culture, new friendships, new music or simply new experiences - the participants of the World Youth Wind Orchestra Project of the last years were enthusiastic. For them it was certainly not the last trip to Schladming.
Let yourself be inspired by their reports:

WYWOP has been one of my life’s biggest blessings. In 2017 I was so scared to leave the United States. But when I arrived in Schladming, not only was Austria more beautiful than I could’ve imagined, everyone I encountered was so kind. No matter where we had traveled from, what language we spoke, the food we ate, or the cultural differences we had, everyone shared a love of music. That love connected us, and I have never in my four years participating in WYWOP, experienced an ensemble that didn’t care deeply for each other and the quality of music we created. My absolute favorite part is the connection we share as a group. Because of this ensemble, I have friends from all over the world. We stay in touch throughout the year, and support each other in our musical experiences. I love learning about people’s culture, their relationship with music, all while embracing the culture in Schladming. I will continue to apply for WYWOP and attend as long as they will allow me!

All week long, we were gearing up for our main concert. The repertoire was both fun and tough, but our work paid off and everyone sounded amazing. When we weren't rehearsing or performing, we had the chance to explore Schladming and its surroundings. Some of us, including myself, tried the dirt kart ride down the mountain, which was a thrilling but nerve-wracking experience. Others hiked up Planai to take in the stunning mountain views, or braved the cold weather atop Dachstein glacier. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. But instead of feeling sad, I like to think of it as a cliffhanger, eagerly awaiting the next instalment. This was my second time in Schladming, and I am already looking forward to returning to this beautiful town and playing with the incredible musicians from around the world again next year.

"I am so excited for WYWOP 2019 because it is this incredibly special and wonderful time when a group of passionate musicians come together for one precious week to celebrate music in the Alps. WYWOP brought me my dearest friends and blessed me with many sweet memories of breathing in the fresh mountain air, enjoying the historic ambience of the Royer hotel, playing prolific wind music and screaming bar songs into the morning hours. I am so happy that WYWOP continues to impact its musicians and audiences each year, and I’m so lucky be a part of this family!"

Valentin P., trombonist from Austria - WYWOP participant
"When WYWOP was over in 2018, I was a little sad that this week passed so quickly. But even before I left Schladming, I knew that I would register again next year. Now it is time again, and I can not wait to meet old acquaintances again, to make music together and to have fun. Personally, WYWOP brings me a lot, as I can develop myself both musically and personally. I can really advise every music enthusiast to see the Mid EUROPE Festival and, if possible, to be part of it, because it's really unique and you do not forget the impressions all your life."
