Marktmusik Heiligenkreuz am Waasen

The Marktmusik Heiligenkreuz am Waasen was founded in 1890. The music association covers the parish area of Heiligenkreuz am Waasen and includes 3 political communities with a total of more than 5,000 inhabitants.
The history of the band has always been marked by a special commitment to children and youth work. The current number of active musicians is 50, with a very high proportion of young people.
In addition to the many events that take place throughout the year, the annual concerts, where the musicians can demonstrate their skills in the field of symphonic wind music and concert literature, are a fixed point.
For many years there have been regular contacts with the music bands in Heiligenkreuz im Wienerwald in Lower Austria and Heiligenkreuz im Lafnitztal in Burgenland. The annual "Heiligenkreuz Meeting" is held alternately in one of the three towns.

The Marktmusik Heiligenkreuz am Waasen has already been able to attract international attention several times. Through successful show performances at the "International Music Parade of Nations" in Germany as the Austrian representative among 7 nations, at a show performance in Lasko (Slovenia) as well as in May 2008 at the Benedetto Parade in Rome in honour of the Pope. Only this year the Marktmusik Heiligenkreuz took part in the "International Music Parade" as part of the big Schützenfest in Iserlohn (Germany) and represented Austria there alongside other marching show bands from all over Europe.

Marktmusik Heiligenkreuz Am Waasen

Conductor: Manfred Lukas

Manfred Lukas began his musical career in the local band of Allerheiligen bei Wildon under its long-time bandmaster, Konrad Monsberger, who was also his first teacher. Brass music was always an important part of his life and a family tradition.

Besides his work as a cook in the regional hospital in Wagna, brass music took up a large part of his free time. Musically he was not only busy in the local music, he was also fascinated by choir music and light music. For almost 25 years he has been making music together with his colleagues in the 3/8 Trio, which is perhaps already known to some of you.

Through his youth work in the music band, his interest in further musical education in the field of orchestra conducting was awakened. After a 4-semester basic course in Leibnitz with Mag. Josef Ferk, he completed the extraordinary course of studies in wind orchestra conducting, also 4 semesters, at the Graz Conservatory, under Mag. Josef Bratl.
